Alternative Curriculum

The Alternative Curriculum is designed to engage and challenge pupils at risk from exclusion from school with a programme of creative activities with a strong life skills element. The aim is to increase their confidence and self awareness with a view to pupils reintegrating the mainstream school system.

The pupils all work towards MOCN qualifications in Visual Arts, Communications & World of Work and Creative Technology

The pupils develop a wide range of visual art and creative technology skills but additionally and crucially the tutors help them to develop as young adults. All sessions are held in a relaxed atmosphere allowing them time and space to develop at their own pace.

Creative Technology projects included
· CD cover and poster layout using Quark Xpress
· Digital Warhols - creating Andy Warhol style images of celebrities. Students used the Google sesarch engine and Adobe Photoshop
· Legends Montage - Heroes & Legends with themselves at the centre using Adobe Photoshop

Communications & World of Work projects included
· Trips out - to develop social skills as well as outdoor pursuits
· Projects challenging self esteem and issue based work
· Work related projects - budgeting, letter writing
