G-Litter 2003 & 2004

During 2003/04 AiR have played an integral part in the G-Litter campaign. G-Litter is a Capital of Culture initiative that encourages local communities to become aware of the issues surrounding litter in their neighbourhoods. AiR's role within this initiative was to provide an inclusive programme of activities for our own Creative Skills course students. The programme devised by the tutors has enabled the students to develop their individual creative ideas in visual art, drama and creative technology. For the 2004 campaign we designed a game that young people could participate in with a recycle, reduce or reuse message. The students also devised a short performance piece to accompany the game at a number of different venues across the city including Blackburne House in the City Centre. G-Litter girl playing 2004

In the creative technology sessions students wrote poems on the theme of litter and created posters using Adobe Photoshop.

The students designed their own costumes including white glittery 'balloon giver' costumes, a human size McDonalds Fries box, a Pepsi can and Wrigley chewing Gum packet.

At 2003's G-Litter event the Creative Skills course were proud to present the gynourmous Litter Bugs made from recycled materials and rubbish. They paraded the Bugs as part of carnival outside the steps of St. Georges hall in Liverpool City Centre.

"Thank you for your superb street performances throughout The G-Litter Festival. The streets came alive and the message of G-Litter most certainly got out.",
